Commendation by Alabama Gov, Robert Bentley for my late father James G.,Patterson and his service to the people of Alabama while serving in the Alabama National Guard for the integration of the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa) in June 1963 and at the final Selma March in 1965.
Casting letter from "Selma" producers offering me a part in the film. I played a reporter at a George C. Wallace Press Conference and met Tim Roth and Tom Wilkerson during my filming in Atlanta in June, 2014
Congressman John Lewis marched at all 3 Selma marches. My father was only at the last one and with a loaded M1 rifle.
Jim Patterson and US Congressman John Lewis at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. Lewis is holding a military photo of my late father James G. Patterson
Another copy of the Selma casting letter. It was a paid assignment as I had to wear 1965 clothes and sit for makeup and hair design to fit the period. In those days men wore hats so I did not require much in terms of a haircut.
Prior to filming I was given one of those large photo cameras that photographers used in the 1960s. I saw that it would cover my entire face. I told the property manager I was a print reporter and I got a tablet and pen as props so my face is clearly visible but only briefly. In the film, only the New York Times reporter had a speaking part. That was fine with me as I own stock in NYT and it was great placement for our brand.
